THOMATOWN & DISTRICT RIDING CLUB
N E W S L E T T E R 2 0 1 1
Welcome to all our new members and to our members from 2010 who are rejoining Thomastown & District Riding Club this year. Hopefully we will all have a fun filled year.
The Committee for 2011 is as follows:
Chairperson – Margaret Walsh
Secretary – Gillian Hennessy
Treasurer – Ann-Marie Donnelly
PRO – Sarah Lang
Grading Officer – Jenny Reid
Safety Officer (1) – Jessica Healy
Safety Officer (2) – Maria Rockett
In our Club again this year we will run some Clinics during the year, these will include Show Jumping, Dressage and Cross Country. Amongst the forms to be filled out for membership you would have received a suggestion form as to what you would like the Committee to try to arrange for clinics, nights out etc., please fill out this form and post back to me as soon as you can.
This year we ran the following:
February 2010 – Dressage Clinic with Ivan Kelly in Mount Juliet.
March 2010 – SJ Clinic with Francis Connors in Mount Juliet
May 2010 – Fun Day Ride Out in Borris House.
Weekly Club lessons in Mount Juliet Equestrian Centre every Wednesday night with all three disciplines catered for.
A cross country clinic was planned for Grennan College but only 4 names came forward and in the end Bridgette done show jumping for 2 at Grennan College.
September - Core Stability/Strength class with Qualified Gym Instructor/Dressage Rider in Ormonde Leisure Centre.
6th November - Club fun ride out in Mount Juliet with lunch.
19th November – Social outing – Bowling at McDonagh Junction with Christmas drinks afterwards.
We had planned 2 fun ride outs in Slievenamon but these had to be cancelled due to the snow.
5th December – Christmas SJ Show in Grennan College – Cancelled.
29th December - Club fun ride out in Mount Juliet with lunch.
We also have our own Website and this site was set up by our fellow member Colum Dillon to whom we are very grateful. The website is updated on a daily basis and any information that is relevant to horse riding is up on this site. We would ask all members to use the website regularly as it will be our main source of contact as well as emailing, so please do check in every few days for updates. We will be putting up show dates, outings, cancellations etc., when they are available. Also anyone who is a member of the site can put up relevant information regarding horse riding activities or items you think may interest other members. The easiest way to find our website is to log into the AIRC site and go to Links you will find us under Thomastown & District Riding Club and then save it in your Favourites. Please note that the site is cleaned up daily/weekly but notices are valid for 2 months unless updated by whoever put them up and events that has passed will be taken down after their date. This is done in order to keep the site clean and tidy. Only show results are saved in our Archive Folder. You have to be a member of the website to put information onto the site, this is for security reasons.
I would also ask all members old and new to make themselves aware of the rules of the Club and AIRC, to familiarise themselves with the rules of competitions and to read the documents that come with your application form. Remember it is up to each member to be aware of the rules and regulations.
In Thomastown & District RC we have a light blue jacket which is available to buy from Holmstead at €40.00, when you ring for this jacket please mention that it is for us as the original price is €50.00, you can then have the club name embroidered on it if you wish. Also our cross country/eventing colours are navy and baby blue. It has proven to be very difficult to find nice cross country gear unless you want to pay a ridiculous price, but I will work on it again and hopefully find something this time.
If at anytime you need help or advice about anything please feel free to contact Gillian on 087 6744968 or by email gillhen@eircom.net and I may be able to help you. We may not always meet up from week to week so feel free to contact me when need be.
Yours in Sport
Gillian
