Welcome to all our new members and not so new members since our last Newsletter at the beginning of the year.
So far in 2010 it has been all go go go for the Club with members taking part in all the Shows to date and again bringing home the ribbons. We have been very successful at individual, teams and again at National level with wins for Ann-Marie and Gillian, Tara and Amy and Jenny at Flowerhill last April. So far we have two members who have qualified for the National ODE to be held at Anna Harvey’s in September and they are Therese and Mags. The AIRC Festival at the beginning of June saw many of our members bringing home the ribbons. The Club’s Secretary Gillian also won the Lancelot Award for Secretary of the Year which is handed down the AIRC and the Club got a lovely write up in the “Link-Up” magazine which the AIRC send out a couple of times a year. I feel that we are going from strength to strength again this year which is fantastic for the Club and its members. I would expect the total membership by the end of the year to be about the 40 mark.
During the months of February and March we ran two Clinics, the first was a Dressage Clinic with Ivan Kelly and the second was a Show Jumping Clinic with the ever popular Francis Connors, both these clinics were well attended and held at Mount Juliet Equestrian Centre. I think we will definitely run with these two Clinics again next year after the positive feed back received from the members who attended. Enquiries have gone out regarding Cross Country for beginners which I am waiting to hear back about so as soon as I have some more information on this I will send out an email to you. Our first ever Club Fun Day Ride Out took place at Borris House in May and was great fun with a hack around the beautiful grounds and then we all enjoyed a picnic in the glorious sunshine.
Our annual Show was held in early June at Raheen-Na-Gun Stud in Kilkenny which this year saw us introduce Dressage for the first time. We ran a bigger show than normal due to the fact that the Club was 30 years in existence and to mark this occasion the Committee presented the first Chairperson of the Club back in 1980, Faith Ponsonby with a bouquet of flowers. The Show was a huge success and thanks to all for your help.
By now the One Day Events are under way with many of our members attending. Again, as these are very well attended by all the Clubs in our region I would ask anyone interested in going to an Event to be sure to have your entry form and fee with me at least 7 to 8 days before the Event as the Secretaries running the ODE will not, under any circumstances, accept late entries, which means I cannot accept them either. All entries must go through your Club Secretary and only club cheques will be accepted.
Our Club lessons in Mount Juliet Equestrian Centre on Wednesday nights are going very well with 3 lessons, the first one at 5.00pm then at 6.15pm and last one at 7.30pm. All three disciplines are being catered for. These lessons will continue all year round and anyone wishing to attend please contact Jenny on 087 9631225 no later than the Monday before. The cost to members with their own horse is €25.00 and if you wish to hire a horse it will cost €35.00 and the lesson lasts for 1 hour. It is a great way to meet up and keep in touch with each other.
By now we are all very familiar with our website which is updated on a daily basis by Gillian and all the latest info on what is happening on the AIRC circuit and more can be found here. The emails are working great and as this is our main source of communication if you are not receiving emails on a regular basis please let Gillian know on gillhen@eircom.net or 087 6744968, but no member should be unaware of what is happening as our website has all the latest news etc.
The Club gear has arrived and been delivered to those who ordered it. We have had no luck with cross country gear as anything we have looked at works out very expensive so we may have to leave this on the long finger for a little while.
If at any time during the year you need help or advise please feel free to contact me on 087 6744968 or gillhen@eircom.net and don’t forget that Jenny is the clubs ”AChara”, you can contact Jenny on 087 9631225 up to 7.00pm.
Best Wishes for 2010
Gillian
Secretary.
