THOMATOWN & DISTRICT RIDING CLUB
N E W S L E T T E R J ULY 2 0 1 1
Welcome to all our new members and not so new members since our last Newsletter at the beginning of 2011.
So far in 2011 it has been all go go go for the Club with members taking part in all the Shows to date and again bringing home the ribbons. We have been very successful at individual, teams and again at National level with wins for Carmel and Gillian, Emma and Jenny at Flowerhill in April at the National Horse Trials Championships. So far we have five members who have qualified for the National ODE to be held at Anna Harvey’s in September and they are Claire Nulty – Green Horse, Jenny Reid - Open, Therese Curran -Advanced Primary, Sarah Lang – Open and Gillian Hennessy – Intermediate. We wish them and our other members going in September the very best of luck. No doubt we will be putting a team together for this Competition. The AIRC Festival at the beginning of June saw many of our members bringing home the ribbons again this year. Our Club is doing exceptional well and at present we have a total of 41 members.
During the months of February and March this year we ran two Clinics, the first was a Dressage Clinic with Ivan Kelly and the second was a Show Jumping Clinic with the ever popular Francis Connors, both these clinics were well attended and held at Mount Juliet Equestrian Centre. The Committee decided this year to try out a Cross Country Clinic at Fernhill Stud with Frasier Duffy/Carol Gee. This Clinic proved to be just as popular as our February and March clinics. The feed back from those who attended was very positive and definitely one to be added to our every growing calendar of events for all.
We also had Core Fitness classes in the Ormonde Hotel for few months along with a Psycho-Cybernetics Seminar with Ger O’Brien in February which anyone who attended found to be very interesting and where amazed at what can be achieved with positive thinking.
After the Clubs success of winning Club of the Year at this years Lancelot Awards in Portlaoise, Sue Nunn on KCLR invited us to come on air and speak about the Club. This job went to Jenny Reid, who I might add done a brilliant job. Also Mount Juliet Hotel invited the Committee to a seven course meal to celebrate this win in June. This is another Award to add to our every increasing list of achievements.
We held our Annual Summer Show in early June at Barrettstown Stud in Knocktopher and it was very well attended by other Clubs in the region and outside. We also ran with a leg of the Masters. Our Show was very successful and thanks to all our members who helped out so much the week before the show and the few days afterwards. The Committee also put on a BBQ for all our members and this turned out to be such a success that I think we should really think about holding a BBQ at least once a year. We held this BBQ is a barn at Barrettstown Stud which certainly added to the atmosphere. A terrific night was had. The Committee would like to thank the Healy family for the use of their premises.
By now the One Day Events are under way with many of our members attending and again doing very well. As these are very well attended by all the Clubs in our region I would ask anyone interested in going to an event to be sure to have your entry form and fee with me at least 7 to 8 days before the event as the Secretaries running the ODE will not, under any circumstances, accept late entries, which means I cannot accept them either. All entries must go through your Club Secretary and only club cheques will be accepted.
Our Club lessons in Mount Juliet Equestrian Centre on Wednesday nights are going very well. All three disciplines are being catered for. These lessons will continue all year round and anyone wishing to attend please contact Jenny on 087 9631225 no later than the Monday before. We are also running with lessons with Ger O’Brien at Raheen-na-Gun Stud every Tuesday night at 7.00pm. This lesson mainly focuses on show jumping. Both these lessons are a great way to meet up and keep in touch with each other.
By now we are all very familiar with our website which is updated on a daily basis and all the latest info on what is happening on the AIRC circuit and more can be found here. Also our emailing system is working very well and all members should be receiving regular emails regarding whats going on etc.
